Skincare Basics for Men
Men can be uneasy about the topic of skincare, and the use of anti-aging skin treatment products. They see it as a ‘women only’ thing, but men also need to take care of their skin in order to look and feel great.

Most men develop some kind of skincare routine in their teens – to deal with acne blemishes, and more importantly to secure the attentions of the opposite sex! But many men as they grow older remain ignorant of the next level in skincare, and the use of products that can improve both the appearance and feel of facial skin to keep them looking handsome.

For starters, men should understand 'skin types' (so when you hear a consultant ask, you'll know their lingo), how to care for their skin, and finally how to create an easy skin care routine they can live with (and tell their friends about without the risk of ridicule!).

What’s Your Type?
Skin can be normal, oily, dry, sensitive, or a combination. Skin can also be characterized as acne-prone, and mature. Here’s the scoop on deciphering your skin type:
Normal Skin: The pores of normal skin are small and the skin tone overall is even. If you’ve never given a second thought to your skin before, your skin type is probably ‘normal’.

Oily Skin: You have oily skin if your pores are medium to large in size; skin feels slightly greasy and becomes shiny from excess oil production soon after washing. It is also prone to breakout - problems with pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and acne cysts.

Dry Skin: Dry skin characteristically feels tight, itchy and uncomfortable immediately after washing; often gets red and flaky, may be slightly rough to the touch, and can also be easily irritated. Winter is especially rough on this skin type.
Sensitive Skin: Sensitive skin is thin, fragile, and easily gets red or irritated. It is also prone to rashes and breakouts from any kind of irritants such as sun, perfumes, shaving cream, temperature extremes, and even soap. Sensitive skin people usually have to be very careful about products they choose, avoiding products with dyes, perfumes, or unnecessary chemical ingredients that can irritate.

Combination Skin: You have combination facial skin if it has both dry and oily patches. Most commonly, with combination skin your cheeks and area around the eyes may be dry, but your “T-zone” (across your forehead and chin and down your nose) tends to get shiny.

Acne-Prone: Blemishes are possible at any age due to hormones, stress, lifestyle and genetics.

Mature: By your 40s, skin becomes drier with an uneven texture and a network of wrinkles, fine lines and brown toned age spots (different size than the freckles of your childhood summer days).

A Skin Care Routine For Men
Many men have routines or plans in place – for fitness, for managing finances, for organizing daily work and life schedules. But mention a skin care routine, and they run straight for the nearest exit! But skin care is not just for women. It doesn’t mean spending hours upon hours in the bathroom with endless jars of creams and potions. And it certainly doesn’t make you any less manly. It does however mean paying a bit of attention, selecting a few quality products with care, and using them regularly.
